Local sustainable self-sufficiency
is an important topic for Slovenia as well as for Switzerland as it has potential for numerous sustainable opportunities. In the future, self-sufficiency in food, water, energy and people will become ever more important, which people in the area of the Heart of Slovenia as well as in the area of our Swiss partner organisation are well aware of. In the Local Products project, the Development Centre of the Heart of Slovenia collaborated with the organisation Alpinavera from Switzerland.

The main purpose of the project is to develop and improve local marketplaces in the Heart of Slovenia. Indirectly, we wish to raise the quality of life in the Heart of Slovenia, to increase the share of local self-sufficiency, the income of the manufacturers of local products, and to influence the rural policy.

Concrete goals of the project:
  • To improve the local marketplace in Ivančna Gorica by adding additional contents.
  • To prepare professional bases for the establishment of a network of local marketplaces in the area of the Heart of Slovenia.
  • To increase the offer of local products in Ivančna Gorica.
  • To transfer the existing knowledge and experience from the field of local self-sufficiency and local marketplaces between partner regions.
  • To prepare professional bases for decision-making about the system of direct sales.
  • To coordinate the adjustment process of policy and measures of cantons in federal rural policy.
The Local Products project is supported by the Slovene-Swiss programme of cooperation for the reduction of economic and social differences in the enlarged European Union, and started being implemented in 2012.

Supported by a grant from Schwitzerland through the Swiss Contribution to the Enlarged European Union.
