The main goal of the CYCLO - Cycling cities project, subtitled as Local Possibilities for Sustainable Mobility and Tourism Development, was to promote the use of bicycle as a daily means of transport in small and medium-sized towns as well as the development of cycling tourism. Within the framework of the project a document was prepared with directions for the development of support cycling infrastructure in towns and education-promotional activities for municipalities in the area of the Heart of Slovenia. By including local agents from the field of cycling, connective cycle routes have been opened with a network of bicycle rental shops in order to develop cycling tourism.
Results/products of the project:
- Existing condition analysis of the use of the bicycle as a means of transport
- Formation of 2 theme-based groups for the field of cycling
- Organization of 3 round-table discussions
- Integral development plan for cycling infrastructure and cycling in an urban environment
- Bicycle safety training (open-door day)
- Bicycle safety training for students
- Preparation of tourism programmes for cyclists - Cycling in The Heart of Slovenia
- Promotional campaign at the local level (website of the project, flyers, posters, brochures)
