LEADER in Slovenia, 2007 - 2013
With the adoption of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013, the Republic of Slovenia entered a new programme period in which it will be entitled to draw the resources from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). With the Rural Development Programme Slovenia implements measures arranged in four axes, of which the so-called LEADER axis (the 4th axis) is an innovation encouraging decision-making on the development of individual rounded rural areas, following the bottom-up approach.
The basic goal of the LEADER approach is to create local capacities, increase employment, diversify rural activities, stimulate local endogenous development, improve management in rural areas, and spread innovation.
The LEADER approach is designed for all inhabitants of the countryside interested in finding and further developing local initiatives for the development of their area and participating in their implementation.
The fundamental principles of the LEADER approach are:
- Local development strategies must arise from the area
- Bottom-up approach
- Local Action Group - public-private partnerships
- Connected multi-sectoral actions
- Networking
- Innovation
- Cooperation
